NEW ORLEANS – On top of being selected to the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship field, senior sprinter Danee Bustos was also named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-South Central Region Team on Tuesday.
It was the second time in her ENMU career that Bustos was selected as an Indoor All-Region recipient after earning both All-Region and All-American honors a year ago.
In her fourth year with the ENMU program, the Belen, N.M. native put together one of her best indoor seasons of her career after coming away with a second place time of 24.40 in the 200-meter final at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 17. Bustos broke her own ENMU record and after the time was converted to 24.47 due to elevation, set the 19th fastest time in NCAA Division II. Following the LSC Championships, Bustos was named an All-LSC First Team for the second consecutive year.
Bustos was one of 20 selected to compete in the 200-meter event at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 8-9 at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas. Bustos returns to Pittsburg after running in the 200-meter championship event last year, turning in the 12th-best time of 24.80 and earning USTFCCCA Second Team All-American honors.
Bustos will join teammate Ivar Moinat at this year’s championships after he was selected to compete in the men’s 800-meter event, marking the fourth straight year multiple Hounds will compete at the NCAA Indoor National Championships.
