Coming off a fantastic performance at the Greyhound Open on Saturday, senior sprinter Danee Bustos from the Eastern New Mexico track and field team was selected as the Lone Star Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week by the conference office on Wednesday.
Bustos won three events in last week’s meet, which included a first place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.51, marking the sixth-fastest outdoor time in NCAA Division II and the fastest time in the Lone Star.
Bustos was also victorious in a pair of relay races. The 4×100-meter team consisting of Bustos, Maijah Mathis, Lateria Slaughter, and Kandice Miles won their event with a time of 47.63 while the 4×400-meter relay team of Bustos, Miles, Kiana Covington, and Mason Swanson also won with a time of 4:18.58.
In the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II event rankings, ENMU women’s track team is ranked No. 6 in the 200-meter dash with three runners holding NCAA provisional qualifying marks, featuring Bustos’ sixth-best mark.
The Greyhounds will return to the track on Friday as Eastern will be running at the Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas at the Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field in Austin, Texas.
