Obituary
A graveside service for Burma Leona (Elliott) Stark, 85, of Portales will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 8,2022, in the Blanco Cemetery in Taiban with Wayne Baker officiating. Family members will be serving as pallbearers.
Burma Leona (Elliott) Stark was born on July 27, 1936 in Taiban, New Mexico, to the home of Goldie Visa (Porter) and Robert Henry Elliott, and died on February 2, 2022, in Portales.
Burma was the tenth child of twelve children. She was raised in the Mesa Community and attended the first three years of school at the Mesa One Room School House. When the school was closed, she transferred to the Floyd Schools and graduated from Floyd High School in 1955. She worked as the Manager of the Ben Franklin department of Food Town Grocery Store for seven years. Burma Married James Edward “Jay” Stark, Jr. on April 12, 1985, in Portales. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, fishing and cooking. She was loved by everyone that knew her. Burma was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Stark, her parents Henry and Goldie Elliott, two brothers John Henry and Wayne Elliott, four sisters Natalie Olmsted, Irene Marshall, Betty Gossett and Alice Gossett, son-in-law Jack Hightower and step son Houston Stark.
Burma is survived by her son, Cary Russell & wife June of Idalou, TX; her daughters, Justine Houck of Portales and Goldie Russell of Portales; step daughters, Nancy Hightower of Portales and Jodi Stark of Medical Lake, WA; four sisters, Lois Cavasos, Joan Goyne, Rose Rector and Mary Burch; one brother, Tommy Elliott, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
