Obituary

A memorial service for Brenda Lucas, 67, of Clovis, will be held at 10:30 AM, Sat., Nov. 18, 2023 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Portales, with Rev. Ben Pritchett officiating along with various family members.  All her colleagues along with members of the Elks and Eagles will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Brenda Kathleen Lucas was born Sept. 1, 1956, in SanDiego, CA to the home of Shirlene Yvonne (Hillis) and John Wilfred Fair, and died Sat., Nov. 11, 2023 in Clovis, NM.  The family moved to Clovis when she was a small child, but later moved to Floyd, NM.  She was a 1974 graduate of Floyd High School.  Brenda was active in Little Wranglers while she was growing up.

After she graduated, she was married to Don Cecil, but later divorced.  In 1982, she married Joe Lucas, and together that had two children before divorcing.  Brenda had made her home in the Clovis and Portales area throughout her lifetime.  Since 2004, she had been employed at Western Bank in Clovis as an Operations Specialist.

Brenda was well known for her peanut brittle, which she marketed at the Peanut Valley Festival, and to people throughout the year as Brenda’s Brittle.  She loved to go dancing in her red boots with her significant other, David Hall, at the Elks Club.  Brenda also enjoyed going to the casinos.

She is survived by David Hall, her companion of many years of Clovis; her son, Joe Walter Lucas, Jr. of Clovis and her daughter, Crystal Irwin and companion, Bobby Park of Portales and a step-daughter, Cynthia Price of Winston Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Ethan Oates, John David Irwin, Beau Irwin, Rien Lucas and Penelope Lucas and two step grandchildren, Jason Morin and Jenny Southerland; two brothers, Fred Fair of Fritch, TX and Bobby Rogers, Jr. and wife, Tonya of Portales; two sisters, Roxy Gilmore and husband, Joe of Elida, NM and Sommer Goodwin and husband, Justin of Rogers, NM; and a sister-in-law, Tracy (Mrs. Andy) Fair of Clovis.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Andrew “Andy” Fair.
