STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS —Freshman Hannah Hughes turned in a first-place performance in the breakaway roping to lead the Eastern New Mexico University women’s rodeo team to a fourth-place finish at Tarleton State. Last weekend’s trip to Stephenville, wrapped up the regular season for the rodeo teams, and they will prepare for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper Wyo., in June.

Eastern’s scored 115 points to share fourth place with Sul Ross State in the women’s rodeo. Texas Tech took first place with 235 point, while Odessa College was second with 205 points. Western Texas placed third with a total of 150 points.

Hughes split first and second in the short round of the breakaway roping with Ranger College’s Shelby Boisjoli at 2.7 seconds, but finished with an event-winning average of 5.2. Kennedy Smith finished fourth in the vent, while Molly Griffin tied for first place in the first go.

Celie Vick was the runner up in the goat tying with an average of 14.9, while Laney Elkins finished fifth. Samantha Smith and Harley-Ann DeLeeuw reached the short round of the barrel race.

Vick will compete in the goat tying at the CNFR, while Lindsey Adcock will participate in the breakaway roping. Ed Beardsworth will represent the men’s team in the steer wrestling. All three competitors rank third in their respective events.
