HOBBS, N.M. – Both Eastern New Mexico cross country teams recorded top five finishes on Friday night at the NMJC Cross Country Invitational at Harry McAdams Park in Hobbs, N.M.
The women’s side finished in third place with a total of 84 points while the men’s side finished in fifth with a total of 135 points. Junior Aminata Kenyawani led the women’s side with a sixth place finish following a time of 19:56.04 in the 5K race while freshman Jon Fuentes shined once again for the men’s side with an 8K time of 26:16.24, good enough for ninth place individually.
Eastern New Mexico had three athletes finish in the top 15 on the women’s side as Kayla Sisneros and Neri Getraide finished in 11th and 15th place respectively. Sisneros finished with a time of 20:50.10 while Getraide finished with a time of 21:22.25 to provide a balanced lineup for the Hounds.
The women’s side defeated both Lone Star Conference foes that competed in the meet by over 35 points as UT Permian Basin and Lubbock Christian each totaled 122 points.
Junior Jessie Madrid finished with a time of 27:00.68 to finish just behind Fuentes in 13th place. Shane Rinde, Toby Kirk and Brandon Chavez all finished in 46th, 50th and 51st.
Both teams will be back in action on Oct. 12th at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open.
