RICHARDSON, Texas – A pair of Eastern New Mexico men’s soccer players garnered Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors after kicking off the season with back-to-back shutout wins against No. 17 Colorado Mesa and No. 3 Fort Hays State.
Junior Joaquin Borruel was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week while his teammate junior Ross Dalton took home the LSC Goalkeeper of the Week award, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Borruel, the Acala de Guardaira, Spain native, anchored a centerline that only allowed 11 shots last week while facing two teams that reached the NCAA Tournament a season ago. The Tabladilla High School product also contributed on the offensive end, scoring the game-winning goal against Fort Hays State.
The Liverpool, England native, Dalton was the only keeper in the conference last week to not allow a goal while totaling 11 saves, which ranks second in the LSC. Dalton posted six saves in the season opener against CMU which was the third-highest single-game mark in the conference.
