PORTALES, NM – Feb. 8, 2022 – Eastern New Mexico University’s office of African-American Affairs is honoring Black History Month in February, with events and lectures open to the public.
The black history month lecture series features three different lectures in the month of February. On February 9, Dr. Lassiter Speller, assistant professor of psychology, will be presenting, “Navigating Black Psychology,” at 2 p.m. in the Sandia Room of the Campus Union Building. On Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Sandia Room of the Campus Union Building, Student Government Vice President Tamia Smith will be discussing “Black Women In Sports.” Finally, Isaac Yeboah of Ghana and Olayinka Sodunke from Nigeria will speak on “Perceptions of Americans on Africa” on Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. in the Sandia Room at the Campus Union Building.
Additionally, every Friday in the month ENMU African American Affairs is promoting “Durag and Bonnet Fridays” on campus.
“I am so pleased with the office of African-American Affairs accomplishments programming events during Black History Month, despite COVID restrictions and regulations.” said Diana Cordova, Multicultural Affairs Director. “This department is student-run and they have taken the initiative to plan an array of events from education, to sports, to entertainment. These students definitely are facing the future with confidence.”
