Obituary

Funeral services for Bibiana Gomez, 65, of Portales, will be held at 2:00 PM, Mon., Oct. 24, 2022 at Trinity Assembly of God Church with Pastor Kelly Fulfer, Pastor Ivan Chavarria and Pastor Alan Urioste officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Miguel Gomez, Jr., Joel Gomez, Israel Gomez, Cornelio Gomez, Fernando Gomez, Isaiah Gomez, Daniel Griego and Isaac Gomez serving as pallbearers. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.

Bibiana Gomez was born Oct 29, 1956 in San Antonio del Bravo, Chihuahua, Mexico to the home of Esperanza (Ornelas) and Antonio Lopez and died early on the morning of Oct. 21, 2022 at her home in Portales. The family came to Balmorhea, TX in 1969, when she was 13 years old. From there they moved to Colorado, and finally came to Portales. In 1972, she met Miguel Gomez, and they were married in Dickens, TX on June 16, 1973. In 1979, they moved to Lovington, NM where they lived until 1992 when they came back to Portales.

Mrs. Gomez was a faithful member of the Apostolic Assembly of God church. She spent much time reading her Bible and listening to worship music. She was a meticulous housekeeper and loved a pretty yard. She was a wonderful cook, and always wanted to be sure that everyone had plenty to eat. One of her specialties in the kitchen was her tamales. She was also an animal lover, and raised chickens and always had special cats and dogs. Mrs. Gomez was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, and loved to go to garage sales.

She is survived by Miguel, her husband of more than 49 years of their home; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Miguel Gomez, Jr, Joel Gomez, Israel and Biatriz Gomez, Cornelio Gomez and Fernando and Veronica Gomez all of Portales; a daughter and son-in-law, Justina Gomez-Cano and her husband, Rafael also of Portales; 28 grandchildren, Cheyenne Jimenez, Dominique Cathey, Monique Gomez, Destiny Gomez, Jasmine Wilson, Jordan Gomez, Leticia Gomez, Joel Gomez, Jr., Ariel Gomez, Brittany Gomez, Ulysses Jimenez, Jacob Gomez, Israel Gomez, Jr., Elijah Gomez, Exodus Gomez, Galilea Gomez, Zacarias Gomez, Jenesys Gomez, Briana Gomez, Estrella Gomez, Mariah Gomez, Isaac Gomez, Miguel M. Gomez, Fernando Gomez, Jr., Vivienne F. Gomez, Isaiah Gomez, Daniel Griego and Aaliyah Gomez; 20 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Nicolas Lopez of Mexico, Antonio Lopez, Jr. of Portales and Edwardo Lopez of Mexico; and five sisters, Maria Lopez, Virginia Rodriguez, Carol Calderon and Dora Sweat all of Portales and Aurora Lopez of Hugeton, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson Josiah Gomez.
