Graveside services for Martha Elizabeth “Beth” Kirkpatrick, 99, of Portales will be held at 11:00 AM, Fri., Sept 4, 2020 in the Eiland Cemetery with her son, Joe Kirkpatrick officiating.

Martha Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, better know as “Beth” or grandma was the only child of Joe & Ruby Caraway.  Born 05/26/1921 in Lubbock, TX.

She married Glen Kirkpatrick on July 13, 1943.  This was while Dad was stationed in Lubbock during WWII.  After the war they moved to Grant, Nebraska where they farmed for a few years before moving to Arch, NM.

Mom’s passion was work.  She viewed work as an almost sacred duty and lived a life filled with work.  Housekeeping, cooking and other domestic duties took a distant second to her need to go to work.

In 1962 (or 1963 … I can’t remember for sure) she accepted Jesus and became a Christian.  Her faith became a driving force in her life from that point forward.

Two children were born of their marriage, in 1947 was yours truly, Joe Kirkpatrick.  Mom desperately wanted a daughter so in 1957 Jane was born fulfilling Mom’s dream.

Dad died June 23, 2007, sadly the love of Mom’s life her only daughter Jane died in 2011.  This loss was devastating to her emotionally.  In reality she never truly recovered and her decline both physically and mentally accelerated from that point.

At age 99 Mom died August 23, in her sleep and at peace.  Alzheimer’s claimed another life.  Mom is survived by one son Joe, three Grandchildren; Jenny Shaffer, Jason Kirkpatrick, and Greg Shaffer, and three great grandchildren.
