Graveside services for Beola Thompson, 86, of Portales, will be held at 3:00 PM, Sat., Feb. 20, 2021 in the Floyd Cemetery with Lemon Dotson officiating. Tibor Kurunczi, Weldon Thompson, Colton Thompson, Gene Payne, Landon Payne and Stephen Hardin will serve as pallbearers.
Beola Fay Thompson was born April 22, 1934 in Elida, NM to the home of Alivia Aquillia (Jones) and Jesse Clinton Dodgin, and died in Portales on Feb. 16, 2021. She attended school at Floyd. On Oct. 2, 1950 in Portales, she was married to Melvin Thompson. For a number of years they lived in several different places following her husband’s work in the oil fields. During the time that they lived in Monahans, TX she had a beauty shop in her home. While living in Big Spring, she worked as a cashier at the snack bar in the high school. In 1996, Mr. Thompson retired, and they moved to Ruidoso to make their home. In 2014, they came back to Portales.
She was a member of the Ruidoso Baptist Church, but attended at Calvary Baptist and Emmanuel Baptist while living in Portales. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed sewing, crocheting and doing various crafts. While her daughter was at home, she made most of her clothing.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Daniel Norrell of Portales; six grandchildren, Amy (Gene) Payne, Weldon (Lori) Thompson, April (Tibor) Kurnczi, Justin (Tiffany) Buchanan, Kimberly (Tate) Smith, and Skyler (Ashley) Thompson; and 18 great-grandchildren, and her daughter-in-law, Mary Beth (Mrs. Melton) Thompson of Weatherford, TX. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, three brothers, Clinton, Marion and Jesse Dodgin, three sisters, July May Ritchey, Fern Dodgin and Velma Jane Evans, her son, Melton Thompson, and by her beloved husband, Melvin who died July 29, 2019.
