Benny Mac Carty September 5, 1955 ~ February 16, 2024 (age 68)

Services for Benny Carty, 68, of Dora, will be held at 10:00 AM, Sat., Feb. 24, 2024 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Dale Bowlin officiating, assisted by Dr. Sherri Wilson.  Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Cemetery, with Mac Carty, Jordan Jennings, Michael Miller, Drake Radcliff, Terry Don Watson and Chet Wyant serving as pallbearers.

Benny Mac Carty was born to the home of Randel and Dorene (Elmore) Carty on September 5, 1955.  He died in the family home in Dora on February 16, 2024.

Benny was raised at and attended school in Dora.  Even though he briefly lived in other places, his heart always remained in Dora.  The best phrases to describe Genny are “Never met a stranger,” “Big-hearted,” “Problem solver,” and most important, “Man of God.”  Ben loved animals of all kinds, and spent hours watching the little herd of deer who camped out regularly behind his house.

Ben had the ability to strike up a friendship quickly, and he could enjoy his surroundings, no matter where he was or who he was with.  He always had a farmer’s heart, even though he had other business ventures as well.  He headed up an environmental compliance company which gathered water and soil samples for testing.  This helped many of our state’s dairies stay in compliance with EPA and NMED regulations.

He also ran a sister company which dealt with selling, installing and maintaining water meters as well as doing other repair projects for the dairies.  His last business was when and long-time partner Kathy Jennings ran the Country Store in Dora.

Ben is survived by Kathy and his faithful pal, his dog, Pistol of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Mac and Anais Carty of Dora; his daughter, Randi Carty and granddaughter, Sawyer of Portales; a sister and brother-in-law, LaDean and Kenneth Massey; his aunt, Doris Elmore Fleming; and cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father Randel Carty and his mother Dorene Elmore.
