SWEETWATER, TEXAS — Landon Beardsworth turned in a winning performance for the Eastern New Mexico University men’s rodeo team in the steer wrestling at last weekend’s Ranger College Rodeo. The first place finish paced the men’s team to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. Saige Bell led the women’s team and split second and third in the first go of the goat tying.

Tarleton State won the men’s rodeo with 520 points, while West Texas College was the runner up with 486 points. ENMU accumulated 210 points to finish right behind Weatherford College (280 points).

After a third-place performance in the long round, Beardsworth took first in the short round of the steer wrestling with a time of 3.6 seconds. He won the event with an average of 8.2. Trey Jackson took first place in the first round of the event with a time of 4.3 seconds.

Wesley Gudgell reached the short round in the calf roping and finished seventh.

Bell split second and third in the short round of the goat tying with a time of 7.6. She finished eighth in the event.

The Eastern New Mexico University rodeo teams will return to action later this week for the Western Texas College Rodeo. The event will start on Thursday and take place in Snyder, Texas.
