The Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce and Portales Leadership will host the “Battle of the Brains” team-quiz game at Eastern New Mexico University’s CUB Ballroom on Saturday, March 30. Proceeds will help young people pay for summer programs such as arts and sports.

Area businesses are sponsoring some of the teams-of-eight, but anyone can team-up for a table. Among the ten knowledge categories are “New Mexico, Baby!”, “Math is Cool, Dawg!”, and “Athletic Excellence.” The table fee of $250 includes hors d’oeuvres and door prizes. The top team receives a trophy and “bragging rights,” according to Portales Leadership. Questions tap all sorts of knowledge, not just for college professors or trivia-game masters.

The beneficiary of this year’s project is “Passport Portales.” Teachers will nominate deserving students based on “character counts” criteria. Recipients will receive a passport to help pay for established summer youth activities. The more funds raised will allow more passports to be provided.

Portales Leadership student Jeff Gentry of ENMU says, “Don’t think of this as just a fundraiser, but a ‘totally worth it’ evening of unique entertainment and participation for our community.” Team-entry deadline is March 22, with tables at $250.
