Eastern New Mexico baseball finished with a decent day at the plate but struggled to score runs as the Hounds fell 9-1 to UT Tyler in the series finale Sunday afternoon.

Second baseman Trevor Moses went 2-for-4 at the dish with a pair of singles as the High Plains squad recorded seven total hits throughout the game.

The Hounds scored their lone run in the top of the seventh following a leadoff single from left fielder Jude Perea. The Patriots pitcher started to lose his command on the bump has he hit two consecutive batters to load the bases with right fielder Alex Kuhn stepping into the box. Kuhn sent a blooper to right field which easily scored Perea from third.

With just one out in the inning and the bases juiced the Hounds threatened to close the gap even further but the Hounds unfortunately hit into a double-play as catcher Ryan Anderson was thrown out at the plate in a close play, trying to score off a pop fly to center field.

Senior starter Joel Torres began the game on the mound for the Green and Silver as the right-hander allowed five runs, three earned on three hits and a walk in 3.1 innings pitched before being lifted for reliever Lane Saunders. The Patriots were able to push their lead to 8-0 as they tagged Saunders for three more runs on two hits and a pair of walks.

Redshirt sophomore Tyler Cobb entered the game in the sixth and allowed just one hit in a scoreless outing before freshman Cody Davis gave up a run, two hits and a walk the following inning. Freshman lefty Camden Matthews shut the Patriots down in the bottom of the eighth as he recorded a perfect three-up-three-down inning.

Eastern will return to its home field next weekend as they welcome Tarleton State to town for a four-game series scheduled to begin Friday at 4 p.m.
