Wild pitching and inconsistency on the mound left Eastern New Mexico baseball on the opposite end of a 17-5 final as the Hounds fell to Tarleton State Friday night.

The Hounds were able to force the Texans into committing four errors and turned those defensive miscues into three runs. Eastern plated two more in the sixth and seventh innings and finished with five hits and one error.

The Texans scored at least one run every inning as they struck first and never looked back after jumping out to an early 9-2 lead following three innings of play. Utility player Blake Frye earned his first start of the ball game on the mound and allowed eight runs, five hits, four walks and struck out four in two innings of work.

The Green and Silver managed to score their first run of the game with senior Joseph Zubia on second base and junior Trevor Moses stepping into the box in the bottom of the first. Moses drove Zubia home with a double down the left field line for his third extra-base hit and sixth RBI of the season. Moses came around to score the following batter as senior Ryan Anderson sent a line drive over the second baseman, right off the tip of his glove, for an RBI single.

Moses went 2-for-3 at the plate and tallied two RBI, driving in senior Malcom Smith in the fifth inning with a base knock up the middle of the infield.
Freshman Rio Granger hit an RBI triple with one out in the sixth inning for the first three-bagger of his collegiate career. Freshman Jude Perea drew a bases loaded walk that sent junior Daniel Hunt across the plate safely for the Hounds fifth run of the game.

The Hounds are back in action with a 14-inning double-header tomorrow with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 2 p.m.
