FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Eastern New Mexico baseball team finished out a three-game series at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds fell by a score of 8-2.

The Lions took a slight 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second.

However, the Hounds responded well in the third inning with two runs to gain the 2-1 lead. Braeton Matthews started off the inning with a single and then advanced to second an a single from his brother Camden MatthewsTrevor Moses hit a single to left field to send home B. Matthews. C. Matthews later scored on a sacrifice fly from Kian Johnston.

UAFS then tallied a run in both the third and fourth innings to regain the lead, 3-2.

The Lions broke open the scoring late in the game, notching three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth while holding off the Hounds in order to secure the contest.

Moses and B. Matthews both finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate. C. Matthews, Johnston, Nicholas Tamez, and Jude Perea each tallied one hit.

Dalton Thatcher got the start and loss for Eastern in 3.2 innings of work. Liam SabistonDamian Acosta, and Shaun Watson also pitched throughout the contest.

The Greyhounds are back in action March 26-27 at Oklahoma Christian University for a three-game Lone Star Conference series.
