LAWTON, Okla. – The Eastern New Mexico baseball team fell, 10-6, to Cameron University on Saturday as the Aggies completed the overall series win.
Cameron took the lead in the fourth inning after tallying four runs on several walks an a two-RBI single from Beau Williams.
The Greyhounds got three runs back to cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning. Nick Schifftner sent in two of those runs on a single to center.
However, the Aggies extended their advantage in their next two at bats to 7-3, highlighted by a solo homer from Julian Macias in the bottom of the sixth.
Eastern attempted to rally in the seventh and came within one as they made it 7-6. The Hounds saw three runs on four hits throughout the inning, including singles from Camden Matthews, Daniel Hunt, and Andres Quintana, and a double from Cole Luedeking.
Cameron saw a flurry of doubles in the bottom of the frame from S’mauri Abram, Williams, and Macias to stretch the lead back out to 10-6.
Neither team could get the bats going in the remainder of the contest, so the Aggies held on to secure the overall series victory.
Pacing the Hounds’ offense were Matthews and Schifftner. Matthews finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate while Schifftner had a team-high two RBI. Hunt, Quintana, Luedeking, and Nicholas Tamez all tallied one RBI each.
On the mound, Dalton Thatcher got the start and was credited with the loss. He recorded seven strikeouts and allowed four hits in 3.2 innings of work. Weston Max earned the win on the hill for the Aggies.
Eastern is back in action next weekend (March 5-7) at the University of Texas Permian Basin.
