Baseball Fall in Series Finale at #11 Angelo State

Eastern New Mexico baseball had a quiet day at the plate as it fell 10-0 in the series finale against #11 Angelo State Sunday afternoon.

The Rams recorded ten runs on eight hits while limiting the Greyhounds to a pair of singles on the day. Second baseman Trevor Moses sent a shot down the left field line as he reached first base safely in the top of the fourth for the Hounds first baserunner of the game. Right fielder Alex Kuhn recorded Eastern’s second base knock with a blooper to right to lead off the sixth.

Junior transfer Josh Lewis got the nod for the Hounds as he started the ballgame on the hill. The Rams plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and were threatening to put the game out of reach with the bases loaded and one out before Lewis was able to pitch himself out of the jam. The Loveland, Colo. native jammed the batter with an inside fastball that dribbled to the third baseman for the start of the around-the-horn, inning ending double play.

Lewis appeared locked in from that point as he allowed just one hit and threw three scoreless innings while tallying three strikeouts from the second to the fourth frame. In the fifth, he found himself in some more trouble as Angelo State was able to add to their lead with a four-run inning.

The Greyhounds host Texas A&M International next week in their home opener. Game one of the three-game series is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m.
