Eastern New Mexico baseball pushed home 11 runs during its win over UT Permian Basin, 11-9, on Sunday afternoon at Greyhound Baseball Field. The win clinched a series win over the Falcons over a four-game weekend, 3-1. The Hounds shift to 5-11 on the season, and 4-10 in LSC action. UTPB slip to 4-17 overall, with a 3-17 conference standing.
The Hounds bats started early across the first four innings, picking up one run in the second, one run in the third, and two runs in the fourth. Jack Thompson doubled into left field to score the games first run, then Nick Schifftner had an RBI double in the third inning, and finally hits from Nyles Duran and Dax Edmonds gave ENMU a 4-0 lead after four innings.
However, the Falcons eliminated the gap in just one inning with four runs in the fifth frame. A double brought home two runs, and two batters later a single sent two more runs to the plate. The tie score didn’t last long as ENMU posted four runs in the sixth inning.
The sixth frame began with singles from Duren and Edmonds, taking the lead 5-4. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Cooper Hamilton worked a four pitch walk to score a run, 6-4 ENMU. Then, Andrea Quintana and Thompson both walked, each picking up and RBI as a run scored on each base on balls, 8-4 ENMU.
UT Permian Basin snagged a run in the seventh inning, but Eastern replied with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Two singles set up Schifftner to double to center field and score one run. The next batter, Sammy Williamson singled in two runs as the Hounds took an 11-5 lead.
A late comeback was cut down by the Hounds defense as UTPB scored four runs in the final inning and had the tying run on second base. The game finished 11-9 in favor of the Greyhounds.

“Very proud of this team for clinching the series today and how we’ve competed all weekend,” said Head Baseball Coach Riley Price. “Greta to see Rugar (Bravo) bounce back and lead the way for us on the mound today. We flat out swung it today. Had multiple guys step up with timely hits and we were much more disciplined at the plate all around,” said Price. “Robert (Nidy) was electric out of the pen and Will (McBride) came in to close the door once again. We have to see our bats heat up going into our next series”.
