Earning his second academic award in 2019, senior multi-events competitor Ezra Bagwell was named the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Male Academic Athlete of the Year and sophomore middle distance runner Caroline Bachman was selected to the women’s All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
A native of Clayton, N.M., Bagwell is receiving the award for the second time in his distinguished career after earning the LSC Academic Athlete of the Year award for the indoor season in February. Bagwell has been named to the LSC All-Academic Team all six times he has been eligible, earning his third outdoor all-academic award. Bagwell is receiving the award after accumulating a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA while majoring in Electronics Engineering Technology.
On top of his brilliant work in the classroom, Bagwell has made his marks in the ENMU track and field record books. Bagwell currently owns the program record in the indoor heptathlon with a 4537 as well as the indoor pole vault record at 4.39 meters. In the outdoor record books, Bagwell holds the third-best mark in program history in the pentathlon with a score of 6119 while also ranking third in the pole vault record book with a vault of 4.24 meters.
During the 2019 outdoor season, Bagwell has set personal bests in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.06 set at the WTAMU Invitational while also recording a pair of personal bests at the Greyhound Open in the long jump (6.48 meters) and discus (30.02 meters).
In her second year with the Greyhounds track and field program, Bachman earned her first LSC All-Academic Award. During the 2019 outdoor season, Bachman has been competed in the 800 meter and the 4×400 meter.
Bachman is coming off a career-best finish at the WTAMU Invitational on April 20, turning in a time of 2:28.07 for a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter event.
The Greyhounds are preparing to host the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 2-4.
