The Portales Public Library hopes everyone had a great summer and that your new school year is off to a wonderful start!  The Summer Reading program was a huge success with 175 children registering for the reading incentive program and we saw almost 1400 in attendance for daily programs.  We had many of your students participate in the incentive program, as well as, the daily activities and that’s due in large part to teachers spreading the word and encouraging their kids to sign up.  Thank you so much for your help!

The library has many things to offer students and teachers and we hope you’ll look to us as partners for your classroom.  Below are a just a few things we can offer:

  1.  Teacher Packs

Email or call (575-356-3940) and let me (Sarah) know what books you need for a particular subject or I can select the books for you.  Give me 24 hours and we’ll have the books waiting for you at the Circulation Desk when you’re ready.

  1.  My Library 24/7 at www.portalespubliclibrary.org

Brainfuse HelpNow—Offers a comprehensive suite of online academic services to support many learning needs and styles.  Brainfuse offers free online tutoring every day, skills building, writing lab, and study and collaborative tools to name a few.  Your students and their parents will love this free service.

Online Card Catalog—Browse titles, renew, or reserve items.

Libby/NM Library to Go—Download ebooks and audiobooks using your patron i.d. from the back of your library card. (ex: P0012345)

El Portal—Online databases available 24/7 with access to thousands of magazines, journals, and newspaper articles.  Perfect for research requiring credible print resources.

  1.  Outreach

Schedule a class visit for your students to learn more about their public library.  We can host a class tour or prepare something special if you have particular needs.  Book tastings anyone?  Can’t make it here?  We can come to you, too.

  1.  Project Planning

Got a special project planned?  (ex:  Egypt, biographies, science fair) If you have a special project planned for your students, let me know ahead of time and we’ll get resources on hand and readily available for your students when they come in searching for materials.

Fall programming starts up at the Library in September and we’re excited to get back to it.  A September calendar for both Children’s and Young Adult is attached.  I will send out our programming schedule each month so if you have teacher friends that are not receiving it, please feel free to forward it and/or have them send me an email to get on the list.

Thank you again for all you do throughout the year for your students and your support of the Portales Public Library.  Please feel free to call or email me if I can help you in any way.  We look forward to working with you this year!
