Obituary

Augustine Nicholas Cordova, known to family and friends as “Tino,” was born Feb. 11, 1960 in Portales, to the home of Maria Adelina (Baca) and Fortunato “Fred” Evaristo Cordova, and died at his home in Portales on Sat., Feb. 15, 2020. He was a 1978 graduate of Portales High School. Tito worked at the local Kentucky Fried Chicken, where he eventually became the manager. He went on to manage several other local businesses, including the Blue Gem, and the package stores at Pizza Hut and Goober McCools. He was passionate about classic rock and roll music. He owned countless 8 tracks, and then cassettes and finally cd’s. Every vehicle had to have the best stereo and speakers as soon as he got it. Another passion was the Denver Broncos. He loved to cook, especially spicy food, and he could detail a car to absolute perfection. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.

He is survived by his son, Jonathan Cordova; his daughter, Jenalee Watson and her companion, Raul Viscaino, Jr all of Portales; six grandchildren, Kaidyn and Kenzie Cordova and Xzavier, Chumpy, Bubbles and Zayleigh Viscaino;his mother, Maria Cordova of Portales; three brothers, Manuel Cordova, Gabriel Cordova and Adolpho and Veronica Cordova all of Portales; and four sisters, Regina and Jimmy Gonzales of Lubbock, TX, Angela and Phil Aranda of Lovington, NM, Estefanita Cordova of Clovis and Maria Cordova of Amarillo, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, Fortunato Cordova on Dec. 2, 2019 and by a sister, Manuelita Cordova who died as a child.
