ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico track & field continued its season at the UNM Team Open, hosted by University of New Mexico, held at the Albuquerque Convention Center, in Albuquerque, N.M. on Saturday afternoon. A handful of student-athletes set personal bests and a few set top five marks in the program history.
Arianna Hayde turned in a school record in the triple jump with a leap of 11.60m (38′ 0.75″), finishing 7that the meet. Hayde’s leap placed above the previous record of 11.30m by Kris-Ann Walters at the ASU Early Grizzly Open in 2014. Hayde also turned in a solid performance in the long jump, finishing with a distance of 5.35m (17′ 6.75″) placing 20th, and 3rdin the ENMU record books.
In the sprints, several student-athletes set personal bests. Malia Sanchez set personal bests in both the 60-meter dash (8.15 seconds) and 200-meter dash (27.57 seconds). In the 400-meter dash, Alisha Hayde turned in a time of 1:03.26 (career best), and Savannah Romero also finished with a personal best time of (1:05.85).
In the mile, Lethabo Seema marked a finished the mile with a personal best time of 5:22.76, while Lauren Griego also set a career best time for the mile, 5:56.84. Aminata Kenyawani turned in a 9th-place finish in the 3000-meter run, with a time of 10:47.68 (season best). Dorcas Kosgei broke a personal best time of 11:16.8 in the 3000, finishing in 12th.
As for the men’s track & field program, both Devis Cheruiyot and Japhet Toroitich landed on the top-5 in ENMU records for the 800-meter run. Cheruiyot finished in 10th with a time of 1:56.42, and Toroitich crossed the finish line just behind in 11th with a time of 1:56.65. Both times were just short of the program record, with Cheruiyot landing in 2nd all-time and Toroitich 3rd all-time.
Mohamed Magano set personal bests in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, with times of 7.25 and 23.06, respectively. Iziah Hall also set a career time for the 400-meter dash, clocking 50.17 during the meet. Ricky Diaz also set a personal best in the mile, with a time of 5:16.00.
The Greyhounds have a week-long break before returning to the track for the Texas Tech Shoot Out held at the Sports Performance Center on the campus of Texas Tech, in Lubbock, Texas. The two-day meet starts on Friday, Feb. 11, and concludes on Saturday, Feb. 12.
