Annabelle Kohler Obituary
Memorial services for Annabelle Kohler, 101, of Portales will be announced at a later time.
Annabelle Kohler was born Oct. 21, 1923, in Amarillo, TX to the home of Allie Esther (McGough) and Isaac Fred Settle, and passed from this life early on the morning of Oct. 22, 2024, just one day after her 101st birthday. Ann, as she was known to many, grew up in Amarillo where she graduated from high school in 1941. Following high school, she was employed at White and Kirk Dept. Store. In addition she made felt hats for additional income. She was a member of the church choir at the Christian Church, and the choir director was a young man named Paul Kohler. The couple was married on Oct. 3, 1953. They made their home in Oklahoma for several years, and then in 1959, the relocated to Portales to make their permanent home.
In the early 1960’s, Ann went to work as the court clerk, and was later promoted to the position of District Court Clerk. She reitred after more than 20 years. Ann was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. She was also a member and past president of Chapter R PEO and of the local chapters of Business and Professional Women and AARP. Ann loved to read, and enjoyed her walks. For many years she kept a daily journal. She loved people, and was always up for a chat with her friends. Ann loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and other family members.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Rodger Wilson of Surprise, AZ and Julie and Scott Chambers of Portales; four grandchildren, Nathan and Nicholas Wilson, Bryce Chambers and Megan and Ramon Artalejo; and two great-grandchildren, Easton and Arizona Chambers. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dean and Mack Settle and by her husband, Paul Kohler who died Oct. 14, 2007.
