Obituary
Funeral services for Alonso M. Sigala, 67, of Portales will be held at 2:00 PM, Tues., May 30, 2023 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Portales with Pastor Vido officiating assisted by Pastor Ernie Tennefos. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Ramon Sigala, Jr., Jesus Josue Sigala, Jesus Sigala, Concepcion Sigala, Alonso E. Sigala and Christian A. Sigala serving as pallbearers. Mr. Sigala will be available for visitation from 10:00 AM, Fri., May 26, 2023 until 5:00 PM at Wheeler Mortuary. On Monday afternoon, he will be taken to the Nazarene Church where he will be available for visitation until service time on Tuesday.
Alonso Melendez Sigala was born Nov. 20, 1955 in Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, Mexico to the home of Eva Melendez Viuda de Sigala and Esteban Sigala, and died on May 24, 2023 at his home south of Portales, NM. In 1973, at the age of 18, Alonso first came to the United States to work. For the first few years, he did farm work in the Muleshoe area. In 1980, he came to Portales, and then in 1989, he moved to Carlsbad, NM where he worked for Waltershide Trucking and Farms. While there he not only worked in the farming operation, but also performed the artificial insemination of the cattle. In 1998, he returned to Portales, and has lived here since then.
Alonso attended the Nazarene church in Portales, and was faithful in his attendance there. He was a collector of anything western, particularly hats and caps. Raising game roosters was his hobby, but his children and grandchildren were his passion.
He is survived by his partner, Amalia Garcia of Portales; his former wife, Mary Ann Munoz of Portales; two sons, Alonso E. Sigala and Christian A. Sigala both of Portales; two daughters, Maribel Natividad and Elia E. Sigala and her partner, Elio Loya all of Portales; five grandchildren, Isaiah Sigala, Aliana Rodriguez, Jayden Rodriguez, Christian Rodriguez and Landyn Sigala; seven brothers, Aldegundo Sigala of Chihuahua, Mexico, Ramon Sigala of Portales, Jesus Sigala of Hobbs, NM, Concepcion Sigala of Dallas, TX, Alfonso Sigala of Dumas, TX, Able Sigala of Chihuahua, Mexico and Nicolas Sigala of Hobbs, NM; and two sisters, Manuela Sigala de Ortiz and Margarita Sigala de Molina both of Chihuahua, Mexico. He was preceded in death by his father, Esteban Sigala and two brothers, Sergio and Apolinar Sigala.
