Alivia Lewis Named January Greyhound of the Month

Junior Alivia Lewis has been selected as the GoEasternAthletics.com January Greyhound of the Month.

As voted upon by members of the Eastern New Mexico athletic department staff, Lewis joins Zamorye Cox as winners of the Greyhound of the Month Award from the women’s basketball team this season. Lewis led the Hounds to a record of 5-3 throughout the month of January and averaged 9.3 points and 8.1 rebounds during that span of games.

Lewis recorded double-digit points in four out her seven games played in the month of January and recorded 10 or more rebounds on three separate occasions. She was vital to the Hound’s 69-68 upset win over then no. 1 nationally ranked Lubbock Christian inside Greyhound Arena, totaling 16 points and 18 rebounds, the second highest rebounding total in a single game in program history.

She followed that performance over Lubbock Christian up with another double-double against Angelo State, and led the Lone Star Conference in double-doubles throughout the month of January with three in seven games. Lewis and company then went on to secure dominant wins over Texas A&M-International, Texas A&M-Kingsville and UT-Permian Basin to jump start the Greyhounds current five game winning streak.

Lewis currently second in the Lone Star Conference with an average of 8.8 rebounds per game as Eastern New Mexico has proven to be the one of the league’s top rebounding units, ranking third in the conference with a rebounding margin of 9.6. The Hounds rank second in the Lone Star Conference in average offensive rebounds per game and 10th in all of Division II basketball with an average of 17.0 per contest.

Lewis and Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball will look to complete the season sweep of the defending Division II National Champions Lubbock Christian tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas.
