CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. The Cannon Air Force Base House Hunters Initiative team and local community leaders have combined efforts to find single Airmen housing off the installation. To celebrate their partnership and the most recent solution to the demand for single Airmen housing, the 27th Special Operations Wing will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at a brand new off-base apartment complex that will be leased by the U.S. Air Force, on Sept. 8, 2023, at 11 a.m.
The complex, Sendero, LLC., located off Llano Estacado in Clovis, N.M., is the first of its kind in the Air Force in that it is a private-public lease that will act as an off-base dormitory.
While the apartment complex that is planned to be leased by the U.S. Air Force for five years is still undergoing construction, the ribbon cutting ceremony celebrates the first phase of the project and marks the first 48 Airmen moving into the complex. The off-base lease will house only single Airmen, be furnished, and have updated appliances. This lease will ultimately result in 200 additional beds for Airmen and comes at a cost of approximately $2.8 million a year.
For now, Air Commandos living in the off-base dormitories will have their own living space, and a shared bathroom and kitchen with one other individual.
With a higher density of young and single Airmen, Team Cannon has been committed to seeking ways to provide safe and affordable housing accommodations for single Airmen. The Cannon AFB House Hunters Initiative, rooted in the Five and Thrive vision, began in March 2023, and is devoted to improving the quality of life for Air Commandos at Cannon, one step at a time. The off-base lease is one of the innovative solutions born from the House Hunters Initiative.
This event will be open to the local community, but media attendees must RSVP prior to receive access information. Please RSVP by emailing jozlin.molette@us.af.mil no later than 12:00 p.m. on September 7th, 2023.
