Hey y’all. My name is Ryan Ainsworth. I’ve been in Roosevelt County my whole life. In fact, I am a 4th generation resident of the area. I’ve even chosen to raise my 4 daughters here. Roosevelt County is a place near and dear to my heart. I’ve been asked why I want to leave a business I’ve spent years building to jump into law enforcement. The answer is simple. After a lot of thought, I feel some changes need to be made, and my leadership skills can make our Sheriff’s Department better.
I own a wrecker service and I’m often called to incidents where law enforcement has been on scene. I see firsthand the attention to detail the departments have shown. For example, in March, I was called to a scene to recover a vehicle. I did our mandatory sweep of the vehicle for my own business liability. A large bag of drugs was left behind in the vehicle after law enforcement had already searched it. This raised obvious concern for me as a citizen. This is a situation that occurs often for us, where we find drugs or weapons still inside the vehicle after law enforcement searches have been done. I don’t say this to attack our Departments, I just believe new leadership can lead to growth and better law enforcement for our community.
The Sheriff is sworn to create a safe environment for our citizens to live, work and play, while protecting and defending our constitutional rights. My goal as Sheriff is to be available to the public. I want to make my presence known by being tough on crime, but also standing up for our civil liberties. I also plan to build a good working relationship with the other law enforcement agencies in our region, because with our shortage on deputies, we need all the help we can get!
Currently, Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department only has 13 individuals, working almost around the clock. In fact, because of the manpower shortage in our department, from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. no one is patrolling the county. Manning our department to full capacity is my highest priority as Sheriff.
With our theft and drug problems continually rising, the department also needs to become more efficient and organized. As a business owner, I have the skillset to lead this team and increase productivity.
As Sheriff, I want to make the citizens of Roosevelt County feel safe, while making sure all our constitutional rights are protected. I promise to be available to the public and to listen to your concerns and needs. I humbly ask for your vote as Sheriff in order to see positive change in Roosevelt County.
Paid for by the committee to elect Ryan Dude Ainsworth for Roosevelt County Sheriff. Crystal Lewis, Treasurer.
