Obituary for Aeron Griffin
Aeron Griffin, 62, passed away Tuesday, April 11th, 2017 at the Covenant Health Hospital in Lubbock, TX following a long illness.
He was born to Melvin and Gladys Griffin in Frost Texas on August 14, 1954 and resided in Portales after the family moved to New Mexico.
He married the love of his life, Dixie Chavez on June 5th, 1985. They raised their daughter, Sahara and two sons, Jermaine and Prentice Dominique in Portales.
Aeron was preceded in death by both his parents Melvin and Gladys Griffin; three brothers; JC, Charles and Gary Griffin and one sister; Charlene Griffin; 3 nieces and nephews; Beatrice Griffin, Maurice Griffin, and Jordan Griffin; and 1 great-niece; KayLea Griffin.
Aeron leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife Dixie Griffin of Portales, NM; 3 children; Sahara Walker of Atlanta, GA, Prentice Dominique (Rossanna) Griffin and Jermaine Griffin of Portales, NM; one brother; Earnest Griffin of Portales NM; eight sisters; Doris Helen (Dennis) Forester of Dallas, TX, Lorene Griffin of Odessa, TX, Freddie (Willie) Douglas of Aurora, CO, Necia and Nettie Griffin of Clovis, NM, Betty Carreras of Oakland, CA, Rebecca (Mitch) Wood of Lubbock, TX and Denise Griffin of Austin, TX; 10 grandchildren; Trenice, Gizel, Isaac, Emma, Izabella, Jordan, Elijah, Isaiah, Nautica and Alinah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Aeron was known as a gentle soul by his friends and family. He loved being a grandfather and teaching his grandchildren about the old days. To his friends he was a person one could go to for advice. And to his family he was a little guy with a big heart who could do anything.
Aeron loved to go fishing and cooking for family and friends. He was a collector of books and was an avid reader.
A gathering to send Aeron home will be held on Monday, April 17th at 2:00 pm at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales NM. Interment to follow.
