Ada Bud “Buddie” Moorhead was born Feb. 21, 1921, in Eldorado, OK to the home of Carl Clinton McGuire and Hattie (Prewitt) McGuire and went home on May 10, 2017 in Artesia, NM where she had been in a rest home for some time.
On Oct. 30, 1944, she married Lucky Fall Moorhead, and they had three children, Bob, Ann and Pat. Buddie faithfully studied her Bible and wrote in it how she looked forward to the day that she would be reunited in heaven with her parents, two sisters, Maxine Coffee and Diesta Richardson, her daughter, Ann Morine, and her beloved Lucky.
Buddie loved the ranch, and loved cooking for the cowboys. Anyone who visited her home never went away hungry, as she kept friends and family happy with homemade rolls, pies, cakes, homemade ice cream and many other goodies. She was “Granny” to all who knew her, but especially Elida’s youth and the many students in the Portales school system that she taught and loved on for many years as a Foster Grandparent. She also loved to sing hymns, talk to her friends on the phone, sew and beat Lucky in a game of Dominos.
She is survived by her son, Bob Moorhead of Hagerman, NM; a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Charles Walker of Hays, KS; a son-in-law, Mo Morine; her grandchildren, Tamera (Gregg) Marcantel, Robert (Shannon) Moorhead, Bobbi (Gene) West, Amy (Bud) Cravey, Lewis Walker and Kurt and Karl Morine; eleven great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Jordan Barnard, Coy Moorhead, Josh Arnold, Laura Morgan, Kaci, Jaden and Coby West, Halie Bush, and Lilah and Gus Cravey. Buddie had numerous friends throughout her lifetime, but the family would like to thank her very special and faithful friends, Rosemary Thomas, Leonore Metcalf and Bettye Lambirth for all of the attention given and visits made to Buddie over the years.
