4/16/2020 | General PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Athletic Director Matt Billings recently named Elizabeth Acosta as the Senior Woman Administrator for the department.
“I am so honored to be given this opportunity to be Eastern New Mexico Athletics Senior Woman Administrator.” Acosta said, “Working for the athletic department has been an enjoyable experience and I look forward to this new assignment and all the new people I will get to meet and work with.”
Acosta will assume duties effective immediately and will continue her responsibilities as the Athletic Administrative Office Coordinator. Acosta began working with the Eastern New Mexico Athletic Department in July of 2019 and will assume SWA duties following the departure of former SWA and Associate AD of Sports Medicine Lora Ferguson earlier this spring.
“Elizabeth has been a vital member of the athletic department this season and has proven time and time again to be a reliable and knowledgeable member of our team.” Billings said, “It is important that our Senior Woman Administrator is someone that keeps our student-athletes first and we are excited to see Elizabeth succeed in this role.”
The SWA position is the highest-ranking female in each NCAA athletics department or conference office. The position was created in 1981 by the NCAA to promote meaningful representation of women in the leadership and management of college sports.
“I would like to thank all of the other members of the ENMU Athletics Senior Staff, each of you have meant so much to me personally and I can’t wait to continue creating memories and learning from each of you every day.” Acosta said, “I look forward to serving as the voice of our outstanding women staff members and student-athletes here at Eastern New Mexico University.”
Acosta has served as an Administrative Assistant since April of 2016 here at Eastern New Mexico, and previously worked within the Upward Bound Program and the Nursing Program here on campus. She serves as the President of the Support Staff Senate, a role which she has held since July of 2019.
