CANYON, Texas – #9 Eastern New Mexico suffered it’s first loss of the season on the road against #4 West Texas A&M by a final score of 3-1.

An early goal from senior Julian Trapp just over eight minutes into the game wasn’t enough in the national top-10 match-up between the two arch-rivals. The Greyhounds were unable to record a shot in the second half as the Buffs negated the early Trapp goal with two goals over the span of just three minutes at the 13:22 and 16:09 mark of the first half.

Trapp’s goal at the 8:52 mark came off an assist from junior Charlie Hackshall and looked to be a picture-perfect start for the Hounds as they found the back of the net on the first attempt at goal for the match. West Texas A&M quickly took back control of the Lone Star Conference opener for both squads with three straight shots, two of which found their mark and flipped the one-goal advantage.

Following the quick change in possession, West Texas A&M settled into control of the match before another shot on goal attempt by Trapp at the 43:10 minute of the first half was saved, solidifying the 2-1 halftime advantage for West Texas A&M.

Eastern New Mexico was unable to record a shot in the second half as the Buffs worked to a 21-to-4 shot differential throughout the match. Trapp recorded three of those four shots while Hackshall added the other shot on goal attempts for the Hounds to go along with his assist.

Senior keeper Ross Dalton was outstanding following the two goals early in the first half, posting a season-high eight saves in net.

Eastern New Mexico will return home on Saturday at noon against UT Permian Basin with a prime opportunity to bounce back and earn their first LSC win of the season.
