Regular Meeting September 11, 2023

This meeting will be held in compliance with the New Mexico “Open Meetings Act,” NMSA 1978, Chapter 10, Article 15.

The following agenda sets forth subjects of the meeting. The order in which the agenda is followed is subject to change by the Board. If a topic on the agenda is permitted by law to be discussed in closed session, the Board may or may not, at that time, close the meeting as to such topic. The agenda will be available at least seventy-two (72) hours prior to the meeting from the Superintendent of Schools whose office is located at the L. C. Cozzens Administrative Offices located at 501 S. Abilene.
Any person desiring to address the Board should complete a “Request to Address the Board” form. The forms are available at the door of the board meeting and should be submitted to the board president.The School Board President will recognize those requests during the Public Comments portion of the meeting.

The meeting is also being conducted in accordance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (42 U.S.D. 12101 1991). The facility where the meeting is to be held is wheelchair accessible, and handicapped parking is available.
Sign interpretive services are available. Requests should be received at least one (1) week prior to the meeting. To make arrangements for those or other handicapped services, please call 575-356-7000.

A. Resolution No. 23-24-02 Declaring Fixed Assets Obsolete and Authorizing Auction, Donation
or Disposal.
B. Adopt Resolution 23-24-03 to be sent for consideration by the NMSBA Resolutions Committee
for possible submission to the New Mexico Legislature.

C. Accept Public School Capital Outlay Council HB 505 appropriation in the amount of $584,876
for the purpose of school security.
D. Accept Public School Capital Outlay Council HB 505 appropriation in the amount of $1,081,809
for the purpose of career-technical educational facilities and pre-kindergarten facilities or for
the maintenance and repair of public school buildings.
E. Award ITB 23-24-0001 for Ag Truck to Hamilton GM Country.
F. Award High School north parking lot renovation to Nick Griego and Sons through CES
Contract price of $324,765.49. .
G. Review the date of senior graduation on May 18th, 2024 and possibly take action to
reschedule to another date.

H. Consider allowing Portales High School to travel to Anaheim, California on April 2024 for
band performance. ( Mrs. Harden)

A. The next regular meeting of the Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023
at 6:00 p.m. in the BoardRoom of the L.C. Cozzens Administrative Offices at 501 S. Abilene. A
closed session may be held.
If you are an individual with a disability who is in need of a reader, amplifier, qualified sign
language interpreter,or any other form of auxiliary aide or service to attend or participate in
the hearing or meeting, please contact the Superintendent of Schools’ Office at the L.C.
Cozzens Administrative Offices at 501 S. Abilene, in Portales, New Mexico at least one (1)
week prior to the meeting or as soon as possible. Public documents, including the agenda
and minutes, can be provided in various accessible formats. Please contact the
Superintendent of Schools’ Office at 501 S. Abilene if a summary or other type of accessible
format is needed
B. September 15, 22, and 29 are early release days.
C. NMSBA Region V Meeting at Portales Junior High Cafeteria on September 19, 2023 from 5:30
pm – 8:30 pm. There may be a quorum present but no formal action will be taken.
D. Fall Break on Friday, October 6, 2023. There will be no school and all offices will be closed.
E. Indigenous People’s Day on Monday, October 9, 2023. There will be no school and all offices
will be closed.
