Living in a small town I assumed that I was aware of every watering hole, but it turns out there is a hidden gem on Main Street.

Most people know Eric Segovia as general manager for Roosevelt County Electric and Matt Hunton as part owner of LP insurance (formerly known as Hunton Insurance), but they are also the owners of 311 Entertainment. Eric and Matt saw the opportunity to create a family friendly place to hang out where most of us just saw old brick walls that were the perfect backdrop for prom pictures.

They purchased the abandoned space at 311 Main Street in Portales in October of 2022 and got to work. After eight months of renovations, they had an indoor facility with a kitchen, bar, multiple screens, and a ninety-nine person capacity. Equally as impressive is the outdoor area. Turf for the kids to run and play games, two covered areas with seating for thirty, and space for live entertainment.

Their focus was a place that families can enjoy together. Kids aren’t stuck at the table staring at a tablet and parents aren’t stuck at the park where there are no drinks to be had. They have a large area where cornhole, giant Jenga and other games are set up on kid-friendly turf. Coming soon they will be hosting a free family movie night once a week with a kid-approved menu.

But again, this is a place for kids and parents. Every Friday in October there will be a DJ and every Sunday they have all three football games playing indoors. The outdoor area will still be available for seating on Sunday if, like me, you’d rather not be surrounded by football. For fans of local sports, they will be showing the Ram and Hounds out-of-town games starting in October. And with the weather changing soon they will be enclosing the outdoor tents and adding heaters.

But, back to fun for the parents. They carry vodka, whiskey, and gin from New Mexico. I was told the Tellers Watermelon Walkoff is their most popular (I later tried one or two of these for research and can verify that it is very tasty!). If liquor isn’t your go-to they have Marble beers, New Mexico wines, and non-alcoholic drinks.

They plan on having at least one event a month starting with the second annual rib cookoff in conjunction with ENMU’s Rally on Main event September 30th, followed by a Fall Festival in October, and a formal Gold Party in December. Information about upcoming events can be found on their social media pages.

If you are looking for a local place that is family-friendly, 311 Entertainment is where to go! They are open on Thursday and Friday from 5:00-10:00 pm, Saturday 4:00-10:00 pm, and Sunday 10:00am-5:00 pm. You can get more information on their website 311entertainment.com or search 311 Entertainment on Facebook or Instagram.
