29 New Mexico Counties Save More than $3.2M Collectively in Workers’ Compensation Contributions Each County’s Contribution Reduced by 50%

SANTA FE, NM – The New Mexico County Insurance Authority Board of Directors today voted to reduce renewal contributions for the self-insurance pool’s existing 29 members in the workers’ compensation program by 50% for the 2020-2021 policy year that begins July 1. This reduction in contributions totals $3,247,631.

“The Board feels it is important to support member counties in any way we can during this difficult and unprecedented time,” stated Board Chair Ron Lethgo. “The self-insurance pool has the financial resources to provide this deep discount so that our members can use the savings for other critical needs within their counties.”

The New Mexico County Insurance Authority self-insurance pool provides workers’ compensation, property and liability coverage to 29 of New Mexico’s 33 counties, and law enforcement liability coverage (sheriff and detention operations) to 29 counties.
