With the recent release of 2020 Census data by the U.S. Census Bureau, the Governing Body is required by law to prepare and adopt a redistricting plan following all applicable laws that divide the City into four (4) geographic election wards (districts) for the purpose of electing City Council members.
The City of Portales has contracted with Research & Polling, Inc. to develop redistricting proposals for review and consideration by the Governing Body.
Public Comment and Plan Review
City of Portales citizens may review the current map and three proposed redistricting plans by going to the City’s homepage on its website at www.portalesnm.gov to view the documents The public is encouraged to submit any comments they have, regarding the proposals, by November 12th to CityClerk@portalesnm.gov.
A public hearing is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. November 16, 2021, to be held prior to the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.
