Since the Prohibition was in effect during the period, speakeasies popped up in cities and towns around the country, offering a secret location to enjoy liquor, dancing, and music.
These days, the seedy establishments are no longer needed, but if you’re looking for the opportunity to revel in the excitement of slipping into a speakeasy, you’ll want to check out Vernon’s in Albuquerque.
To be specific, the Black Diamond Lounge is the speakeasy, located in an unsuspecting location in the Los Ranchos Village Shops. Be sure to call to make a reservation at this joint and you’ll be provided entrance instructions. This includes how to find the dark door marked with a single red light and the password.
Once allowed inside, you’ll feel like you were transported to the another era.
While not required, it is recommended to get dolled up to add to the glamorous ambiance. The room is dark, red velvet curtains line the walls, and the lighting is dim. You can gab a seat at the bar for a cocktail, like a sweet Blind Tiger, which is a potent and spicy Coyote en Fuego.
If you’d prefer, you can opt for a private booth or table for your favorite fellas and dolls. Here, you’ll be treated to a delectable meal elegantly presented. Enjoy a steak, a pork tenderloin seasoned with Hatch red chile, or for something a little simpler, try the exquisitely rich adult mac & cheese.
